Fifteen Years of Spencer & Jay

It's been fifteen years since I first created Spencer. It was the fall of 2003, and I was only fourteen years old at the time. Jay didn't come till later—2004, most likely, although there's a chance he showed up at the end of 2003, so yeah, he's basically as old as Spencer, too.

Even though I ended up trashing the original series they belonged to, I always wanted to work on something with those two again, since their scenes had been some of my favorites to work on back then. Finally dusted them off in 2015 for a new horror series. At first, they played more of a secondary role, like in the original, but my love for them eclipsed everything to the point where I allowed them to be main characters instead. This series—The Undeath of Me—will be launching in 2019.

(Ironically, neither of them will actually be in the first Undeath of Me story I plan to publish—my muse is fickle that way—but I still count Spencer and Jay as main characters, just not the only main characters, so they're not allowed to get mad, right?!)

To celebrate how freakin' long these two have been living in my head, I drew a new ACEO. Enjoy!

  1. They have been around for a while. Sometimes it is more the characters than the story.

    1. Characters definitely come first for me. The stories I plot only unfold the way they do because of my characters' personalities!

  2. They're totally not allowed to get mad! And I had thought Spencer had been around a lot longer than that being a vampire and all! ;)

    1. Hahaha! I don't think Spencer would be patient enough to wait around as long as his in-story age. XD

  3. It's neat how some characters just won't let you go.

    1. Haha, yeah. They're officially older than I was when I first created 'em, which is just...so weird.
