Most Anticipated Comic Book Debuts of 2019

As should surprise no one at this point, whenever I’m not busy making comics, I can usually been found reading them. There are some new series debuting this year that I can’t help but look forward to. Below are the ones I’m currently most curious about, in order of release!

Blossoms 666

(January 23, 2019)

When I heard Archie Comics was releasing a new horror series with Cheryl and Jason Blossom, from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Laura Braga, I was intrigued. Those twins have been favorite characters of mine from a very young age. Learning they’d be competing for the title of Anti-Christ hooked me even further. Like, yessss. That sounds hella fun! GO F*** UP RIVERDALE, MY BABIES.

The Shape of Elvira

(January 23, 2019)

Elvira gets the leading movie role for a human/gill monster romance! David Avallone’s writing for Elvira: Mistress of the Dark has been so campy and fun that this new mini-series of his is bound to be just as glorious. Bring on the Shape of Water satire!

The Girl in the Bay

(February 6, 2019)

I’m unfamiliar with writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Corin Howell, but this mini-series won over my horror-loving heart with the premise alone. (A girl is left for dead in a bay, but survives! Except it’s somehow fifty years in the future now, and a doppelganger has lived out her life in her place.) Can’t resist seeing how this will play out in issue #1.

Archie & Friends: Music Jam

(February 13, 2019)

In a world of reboots, I will always support an Archie comic that utilizes the classic style I grew up loving and being inspired by. ALWAYS. (I’m also not-too-secretly hoping that Josie and the Pussycats will make an appearance, due to the theme.)

Sabrina the Teenage Witch

(March 27, 2019)

I’ve loved Sabrina for almost my entire life. (Was reading the comics before the 90s sitcom existed, and I was only seven when that show premiered.) Forever one of my favorite witches. Interested in seeing what kind of magic writer Kelly Thompson and artist Veronica Fish will conjure up for this series.

  1. I heard about the Elvira one. I bet she still looks like that in real life. Just older.

  3. Like I commented on your last post, comics look a lot different than they did when I was a kid... and buying them for two for a nickel. (Used. The new ones cost a nickel or dime.)
